Karoo community project

In 2019, Dr Julia met with PC Ferreira to initiate a first large community project. This project is implemented by the NPO Karoo Gariep Wildlife Conservation and Rhino Project and under the consulting umbrella of PLCnetwork of the Southern Hemisphere.

PC, one of our members and representative of the NPO, is the owner of two proclaimed nature reserves situated a few kilometres outside the small town Hanover in the Karoo region: Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve and Hanover Aardvark Nature Reserve. He runs a guest lodge and offers a unique Karoo Shy5 Safari package.

As part of the NPO community programmes, we decided to establish the Karoo Safe Houses and Route of Hope. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed already and we will introduce this endeavour in more detail very soon in our Insights!
